A remarkable piece of jewelry can make an excellent gift, either for yourself or someone special in your life. Whether it be for a birthday, a special holiday, a romantic gesture, or just because, finding the right adornment can sometimes be tricky. We’ve put together a list of local Houston Jewelry designers, each offering their unique style, specialty, and story.
Houston Jewelry Designers
Houston Crafts: Handcrafted Beaded Jewelry
Houston Crafts is owned and operated by a mother-daughter duo who combine their complementary styles to create a wide array of beautiful pieces and are one our favorite Houston Jewelry designers. Of the pair, Judy’s specialty is dazzling Swarovski crystals, while Tonya focuses more on contemporary styles. Overall their shop is home to many different forms of jewelry utilizing materials like beads, gemstones, pearls, and turquoise. They also dedicate a portion of their store to custom-made bridal jewelry.
Erica DelGardo Jewelry Designs
Erica DelGardo is an Argentinian metal-worker who has owned her shop in the Houston Heights with her husband for the last decade. She loves everything about the design process, from the moment her idea hits the paper until it becomes a reality. Her creations come in the form of intricate metal designs and precious or semi-precious stones wrapped in a metal framework. Visit her store where her work is often featured side by side with other local and international guest artists.
Dickinson By Design
Rather than have a large showroom, when visiting Houston Jewelry designers Dickinson by Design, you are seen in a private meeting room where the store’s trained technicians work with them to figure out exactly what is desired in a new piece. Since 2003 they’ve prided themselves on ensuring that each new piece of jewelry, repair, or remake is tailored specifically to the individual’s needs. They specialize in engagement rings and fine jewelry and can create looks that are vintage or modern, simple or complex.
Rebecca Lankford Designs
Pastime quickly gave way to a career when Rebecca Lankford made the switch from paralegal to full-time jewelry designer over 20 years ago. Her work is inspired both by her spiritual upbringing and her mother’s pervasive creativity. Her studio, Studio 703, is located where the Koelsch Gallery used to be at 703 Yale Street, and it is here that her pieces are designed, created, and forged. Providing her own unique style, she frequently mixes unusual materials into her pieces, creating jewelry that both contrasts and compliments all at once. Many of her designs include crosses and a common theme across the board is both the natural and the spiritual.
Houston Jewelry designers Silverlust, with a touch of gold, create in-shop as well as offering jewelry from all over the world, including Egypt, Israel, Bali, Italy, Mexico and more. Over the years they have made thousands of gorgeous, unique and quality pieces. They are also highly flexible regarding custom requests or repairs. Their motto is “if it’s fixable, we’ll repair,” so they are willing to work with pieces and metals that not all shops will on behalf of their patrons, within reason of course.
The Galaxie Jewelers
At Galaxie Jewelers they pride themselves in their core beliefs and promise always to deliver the utmost honesty, something that seems to be working for them since they have been in business for over 40 years. The store itself is housed in a 1930s bungalow, purchased in 1984, which gives the shop a very cozy and antique feel. Going with the theme, these Houston Jewelry designers showcase a collection of jewelry ranging from the late 1800s into the 20th Century and also specialize in resizing vintage and antique rings. They also create beautiful new custom pieces as well.
Designers Jewels have been crafting custom designed jewelry on Westheimer since 1968, but their story goes back much farther than that. The Sandler family has been creating hand-crafted jewelry for over 100 years, spanning four generations. Truly a family trade, their pieces combine gold and silver with alluring gems of the highest quality into styles ranging from modern to classic. Despite their long-running practice, the Sandlers haven’t failed to keep up with the times. In addition to hand-crafted pieces they also offer Computer Assisted Design and Manufacturing services, allowing for some truly intricate designs.
We hope this list helps you in your next quest for a meaningful piece of jewelry. Let us know in the comments who your favorite local designer is.
