It is so important that no one be left behind during the tragedy of the Houston Floods 2015, and if you believe what you are reading, then people will have you think that the only ones affected by the flooding are those in the Jewish community and the only ones helping are those in the Jewish community. Whose helping who is the question of the day, and why aren’t we, as a strong #vibing Jewish Community helping other communities get back on their feet as well? Well, J-Vibe is here to tell you that everyone is helping everyone.
Whose Helping Who?
Nicole Kohn, with the Moms & Ladies of SW Houston, has put together a fundraiser that is LITERALLY raising the roof for those in the poorer communities and helping those in need. She is asking for donations so they can send hot meals to the families affected by this horrendous disaster, that has left many without usable kitchens. These people have a long road to recovery, and they as neighbors want to rise to the occasion and offer help and compassion. Thus far, they have raised $2,715 of a $10,000 goal.
But, that is not all these ladies are doing. They have made lists of what is needed, they have organized and strategized and are armed and ready to conquer and help. And, who is helping to oversee this, Lisa Stanton, over at the Jewish Federation. She is helping to organize and prioritize both Jewish and non-Jewish organizations to help in communities that were hardest hit, whether they be Jewish or not.
The volunteers that are gathering together are of all races, creeds and colors and are they are helping anyone and everyone, which is the TRUE spirit of TIKUN OLAM and our #vibingcity and #vibingcommunity.
