When you think about the Jewish culture, it is often centered around the meals. Passover and the Seder, Yom Kippur and the Break Fast, Sukkot and eating in the Sukkah, and let’s not forget about the Sabbath meal every Friday night. It’s no wonder that family dinners and meals are such a huge and important part of our everyday lives because they not only bring us together as a community, but as a culture. Look at what your friends post on their Facebook walls. Recipes and pictures of food, and dining out with friends and family. We love to eat, and there is no shame in that, especially when you have a restaurant like Jonathan’s the Rub to serve up some spectacular food.
Jonathan’s the Rub Rubs You The Right Way
Jonathan’s the Rub rubs you the right way for so many reasons, but let’s start with the fact that Jonathan Levine is part of our Houston Jewish Community and he works alongside his son and daughter, and that he has never met a stranger and treats everyone who walks through the door of his restaurant like family. The restaurant, which is located in the Memorial Villages, has an open kitchen so you can see Jonathan and the other cooks preparing your dishes. The reason behind this is that Jonathan is creating,
‘a place for you to visit, feel comfortable, be yourself and, hopefully, leave with a few more friends and a satisfied appetite.’
What’s the Rub, Jonathan?
What truly sets Jonathan’s the Rub apart is his signature Rub that he bottles up and sells in his restaurant. It’s chock full of secret ingredients that he won’t tell a soul what they are, but it is so yummy, you will want to a bottle or two or three and use it on everything. Use it on your meat, fish or veggies and then cook away and you will almost feel like you are at Jonathan’s the Rub. Note, I say almost, because nothing can compare to the real deal once you’ve dined in his restaurant.
Come Hungry and Leave Satisfied
First, like any great Jewish Chef, Jonathan Levine gives huge portions. And, the food is so good that you will probably finish clean your plate, but come hungry, because you will leave satisfied. Some of our favorites are the Triple Smoked Fried Oysters, Butterfly Veal Chop and Chicken Parmesan. But, don’t take our word for it, go over and try what you like, because the menu has a ton of offerings from steak to seafood and everything in between.

In fact, our latest most favorite new addition to the menu is Jonathan’s Chicken and Waffles. Now, until we had the Chicken and Waffles at Jonathan’s the Rub, we never quite understood the combination and now, not only do we get it, this is the only place we will eat it!
4th Annual Curry Crawl Chef Showdown
On Sunday, June 7th from 4-7 p.m. at STRAITS restaurant, located at 800 Sorella Court in CITYCENTRE, Jonathan will be competing in the fourth annual Curry Crawl culinary competition. This culinary fundraiser attracts more than 350 foodies looking to mingle with some of the city’s top chefs. Jonathan will be one of the 10 chefs who will display their fiery skills with dishes that are inspired by the spice curry. Everyone who attends eats and votes for their favorite restaurant, and all proceeds will benefit Spaulding for Children, a non-profit organization that helps to build and sustain strong nurturing families for children who have endured abuse, neglect or abandonment.
J-Vibe hopes that you will come out and support Jonathan’s the Rub not only this Chef Showdown, but for this very worthy cause!
Something else that makes Jonathan’s the Rub so great is that he caters and has a private room. So, for all your simchas, parties and events, he’s got you covered and don’t forget to mention that you want him to include some rub on your grub!
