One of the perks of working at J-Vibe Online Magazine is meeting the absolute coolest Jews in Houston, and today was no exception. Once again, an instant connection was made, and conversation was easy and flowed. It was love at first site for J-Vibe and we hope the feeling was mutual. If you don’t know Laura Max Rose, find her and get to know her…. quick! You’ll thank us for it.
Laura Max Rose
Laura Max Rose is not from Houston, bur her Jewish roots are strong. Her fathers side is Orthodox and her Mothers is Reform and very spiritual. When her parents divorced, Laura and her mother moved to Houston and Laura was sent to St. Francis Episcopal School. It was unlike anything she had ever experienced before.
She had left her Jewish life and entered into unfamiliar territory which was frightening, perhaps a bit traumatic and certainly life altering. Laura moved away from her Jewish roots as she moved through HSPVA for High School, where she sang and had little to no Jewish friends. At Northeastern University she pledged as a Kappa Kappa Gamma.
I was in a sorority that stood for Keys to the Kingdom of God. I never even thought I would date, much less marry, a Jewish guy!
And, that was Laura’s mantra, as she veered away from her Jewish roots, until she met her future husband.
Coming Full Circle
As in life, everything seems to be cyclical. And, when Laura moved through many career changes and personal changes, she slowly started to find her way back to her spirituality. But, it was when she met the love of her life, Ben Rose, that she realized Judaism was still important to her. Laura dreamed of Ben before she met him. She wrote him down on paper. Not HIM, but what she wanted him to look like and feel like to her. What he sounded like and talked like. What he would be like as an emotional and supportive mate. She focused on the inner beauty of what she wanted, not the outer beauty and wrote pages about him.
It has been said that if you put it out there and believe that it will come, and Laura’s spirituality and belief did not fail her, because a couple of months later she ran into Ben and after dating him for just a couple of months, she knew he was the one. They live a very full life, and Laura has not only comfortably found her spiritual mate, she has also come full circle back to her Judaism. As she says, she is now the one,
…who has mezuzah’s all over her house!
A Marvelous Maven Indeed
Laura Max Rose is a marvelous maven in so many ways. She is the Director of Programming for Congregation Shma Koleinu, and thinks outside the box when it comes to inclusion and how to integrate Judaism and her growing Congregation into helping change the landscape of the City of Houston. She is a writer at The Light Files, where she writes about everything from spirituality to relationships. She can be found talking about Millennial’s on Channel 26. She is a thinker, an activist, an advocate, a doer and at 26, she is an old soul who is so extraordinarily kind, thoughtful, loving, funny and sweet you can’t help but fall in love with her.
Can you tell we adore Laura? We do!
