Have you ever met someone and you wished you had the motivation, drive and perseverance they had? More importantly, have you ever sat across from someone who was so accomplished you were astounded by not only what they have done, but by how humble they are? Once again, J-Vibe is so lucky, because we got to meet that someone and she is an amazing kid that is #justvibing.
Lauren Perillo is quiet and beautiful. She is composed and confident in a humble way. What we loved about her is that she really didn’t like to talk about herself, and she is phenomenal, especially since she is only a senior in high school.
- 2320 on her SAT
- Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist (the finalists haven’t been announced yet!)
- AP Scholar with distinction
- Earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award
- Math Honors Club
- Spanish Club
- National Honor Society
- Memorial High School Spirits Club
- Varsity Tennis Team and Championship Tennis Player
- Accomplished writer
- Tons of friends
And these are just some of her accomplishments.
But, the school stuff isn’t what makes Lauren a rising star in our eyes. She is a change maker already. She is a rising star because she looks for what’s not there and creates it. Lauren taught herself sign language when she was younger and didn’t tell anyone, and then when she was volunteering at a home for adults with disabilities, there was a deaf man, and someone asked if anyone could sign and Lauren said she could. Even her mother didn’t know she knew sign language. She still goes and visits this man today. She has organized teens for walks and raised the most money that has ever been raised for that non-profit and she did it by purposely putting together a team of people in place from all the grades in her schools and utilizing the power of social media.
Lauren has worked at camps for children with disabilities and she has been actively involved in the National Charity League and Easter Seals. Lauren has most recently put together the Youth Action Council Network or YAC, which is a network of teens who want to get involved. This group has evolved and is going National, and Lauren has stacked the Council with kids from 9th grade through 12th grade, since she is going to be graduating, to be sure that it will keep growing and evolving. She is such a rising star that she even thinks that far into the future!
What makes a kid come out like Lauren? Her parents have always been involved, but her mother has also allowed Lauren to be her own person. In fact, watching Lauren, her mother has realized that sometimes the youth have the best answers because they come with a clean slate and look at the problems differently and how to solve things differently, and we happen to think in this case, she may be right. We don’t know if Lauren has influenced her friends or if they are all just #vibingkids, but we do know that Lauren is the type of girl that asks questions. She looks for needs and then she looks for solutions and she is always looking to do more.
We asked Lauren what was the magic in her secret sauce…
You just need to reach out and get involved and take initiative. We have a big advantage today with social media and believe it or not, you are surrounded by like-minded kids at school, and once your start it becomes a chain reaction.
Lauren Perillo wants to be a community leader and an attorney that represents people that can’t represent themselves. She is a rising star, #vibingkid, amazing girl, and frankly, we can’t wait to watch and see what she does next!
