How many times have you walked into your closet and thought you had nothing to wear? I know that I can’t keep count of the number of occasions I’ve done that. Thank goodness I can call on Jillian Williams, the founder of Jillian’s Closet Personal Styling, for a closet detox! Jillian Williams is the founder of Jillian’s Closet which provides services such as personal styling, personal shopping, closet detox, outfit pairing, photo shoot styling and fashion show production.
Inside Jillian’s Closet
Jillian Williams has always had a passion for fashion. Born in San Diego, California, her parents divorced when she was four years old, and she and her dad settled in Houston. Growing up she constantly had her friends and family asking her for fashion advice and wanting to go into her closet and borrow clothes and shoes, and that is when she realized she had an eye for style and started to pay attention to what people were wearing.
Although Jillian was passionate about styling, it took her ten years to start her business. She worked for her dad straight out of high school and began a career in outside sales, and then worked for her husband’s sister in a similar field doing Business Development.
It was in 2013 when Jillian welcomed everyone into her closet. Jillian started out helping friends and relatives by organizing their closets and helping them figure out how to dress for their body type and what color pallets they should be wearing. Whether it was shopping with them or being given a budget to shop for them, she was always there to assist.
After growing her clientele through referrals and word of mouth, she then progressed to hosting small fashion how to’s at high-end luxury residential properties around the city. Jillian started to build relationships with local boutiques, models and other people in the industry. These relationships played a pivotal role in landing her the opportunity to work with Neal Hamil, the top modeling agency in Houston, to style photo shoots.
Since then, I have worked with a variety of personal clients, photographers and modeling agencies such as Neal Hamil, Page Parkes, and First Models.
While attending HCC’s Fashion and Merchandising program, one of Jillian’s classes was Fashion Show Production which was to produce the design student’s spring collection. Jillian ran to be the fashion show director and was elected. Her innate ability to work well with others while keeping everyone on time and task earned her a scholarship to New York City. This was unprecedented because this was the first scholarship ever awarded to a nondesign student in the history of the program. From the show, fashion aficionados immediately recognized her as one of the top runway directors in the city.
Jillian’s Closet is Overflowing With Success
Along with running Jillian’s Closet, Jillian is the Runway Director for Kaleidoscope Houston and is the co-founder along with her husband of the No Excuses Foundation. No Excuses Foundation is a non-profit who’s mission is to elevate the educational awareness, self-esteem, and overall conscientiousness of underprivileged youth through sports, academics, arts and fashion. Their annual fundraiser holiday fashion show on December 10th will raise scholarships for youth interested in the arts and fashion. Kaleidoscope Houston’s purpose is to bring creatives together and give opportunities for local designers, artists, entertainers and filmmakers by bringing everyone together under one roof and creating something magical.
We have so many creative people here in Houston, including designers, artists, producers and so much more. I think we can work together more to create bigger and better things. But I see a bright future for Houston’s fashion scene.
With Houston being one of the most up and coming fashion cities in the world, Jillian is intent on being one of the catalysts for its continued growth.
Jillian receives a ton of support from her husband Casey Williams, who pushed her to pursue her passion. They live happily with their two beautiful dogs, Layla and Nikko and look forward to expanding their family.
