Buffalo Bayou Partnership acquired this run-down industrial site in Houston’s East End and transformed it into the Yolanda Black Navarro Buffalo Bend Nature Park in collaboration with Harris County Precinct Two and other governmental organizations. From being a construction waste dump, the land has been transformed into a lovely park with three wetland ponds, a cistern, native plants, a pond overlook, interpretive signage, and hike and bike trails.

Yolanda Black Navarro was a dedicated civic leader who dedicated her life to serving Houston for many years, and this park bears her honor. She was recognized for her leadership in the East End and established the Association for the Advancement of Mexican-Americans. Yolanda left this metropolis with a recognizable and unforgettable mark.
