This year Houston is honored with hosting the Super Bowl for the third time and with the Super Bowl comes many special events. Check out our guide to some of the coolest, officially sanctioned Houston events happening in the days leading up to the big game.
Best Houston Events Celebrating Super Bowl LI
Future Flight is going to be the star of the Super Bowl LIVE festival, which starts on January 28th. It features virtual reality and numerous interactive space exhibits, and even allows fans to take virtual trips to Mars. The Host Committee is partnering with NASA to make this Super Bowl the “Super Bowl of the future in the City of the Future.” Don’t miss out on this free festival going on for nine days straight leading all the way up to game day at Discovery Green.
NFL Experience Driven by Genesis
Driven by Genesis is the NFL’s interactive theme park. Visitors can participate in youth football clinics, player autograph sessions, interactive games and more. Located at the George R. Brown Convention Center, it will be going on daily beginning January 28th leading all the way up to game day. However, it is reserved for private events that Monday and Tuesday. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and are $25 for children between the ages of 2-12 and $35 for adult admission, ages 13 and up.
Legends for Charity
Legends for Charity is one of the Houston Events surrounding the presentation of the Pat Summerall Award. This sports lifetime achievement award was created in 2006 and is one of the top honors a sports broadcaster can receive. This year the recipient of this prestigious award is Rich Eisen of the NFL Network and the AT&T Rich Eisen Show. Join celebrities and legends from the NFL and broadcasting alike on February 2nd at the downtown Marriott Marquis. Individual tickets are $250 a piece with benefits going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations are an additional option and can be made separately or in conjunction with ticket purchases.
The Houston Power Party
Held at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Houston Power Party includes special exhibits, celebrity appearances, art and more. The event promises to be a truly unique experience, and to top it all off it is very affordable as well. Until January 20th, tickets are $100 for general admission or $200 for VIP, which grants you access to the VIP area, heavy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and more. The event takes place Thursday, February 2nd from 10 pm to 2 am and promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Super Bowl Gospel Celebration
The Super Bowl Gospel Celebration taking place at Lakewood Church is the only officially sanctioned NFL event of its kind. Visit on February 3rd at 7:30 for an evening of beautiful music and a community experience that has been going on for 18 years. The Houston Event features the NFL Players Choir, special guest artists and more, and tickets are $75.
Leather and Laces 2017
Leather and Laces takes place over the course of a weekend and now offers two nights to participate thanks to the popular demand of the event. Tickets for Friday, February 3rd, are $375 or $475 for Saturday, February 4th and give you access to this renown party from 9 pm to 2 am. Each night features different celebrity hosts at the gorgeous Hughes Manor Campus on Washington Avenue. The event features an open bar, delicious sushi rolls, champagne and hors d’oeuvres and is one of the most star-studded events surrounding the Super Bowl.
Taste of Katy Chili Bowl
The exciting Katy Chilli Bowl is going down on February 4th at Rhodes Stadium. This is one of the most extreme Houston Events that starts off with free tailgating from 9 am to noon including the Taste of Katy chili cook-off, music, vendors, food trucks, and a silent auction. Pre-game starts at noon, and the Celebrity Flag Football Game is from 1-3pm. Tickets for the game are $20 at the gate. Doug Flutie will be an anchor quarterback and Cowboys alum, Michael Irvin, will be a celebrity captain. More athletes and celebrities will be announced leading up to the event. The afterparty continues the day from 4-8pm at No Label Brewery, $15 tickets include entry, pint glass, and three beers. They will have music, food trucks, and more for patrons’ enjoyment.
