Hidalgo Park is one of the oldest Houston Hispanic neighborhood opened in 1927. It was acquired by the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Departments to commemorate Mexico’s Independence Day. This park was designed by Vidal Lozano a Mexican-born resident of Houston. He constructed a quiosco a Mexican-like gazebo structure with two paths comprising of lawns and trees. Today Hidalgo Park is a center of East End culture and civic life. The park features a creative wooden playground, baseball field, and expansive space for active recreation and cultural celebrations. Occupying 11.5 acres, the park has a lot of activities to enjoy for locals and tourists.

One of the major attractions in Hidalgo Park is the Quiosco. It is a historical landmark that was commissioned by Lozano, to represent the Mexican Independence Day. The quiosco is a perfect artwork constructed in an iron frame covered with hand-molded textured concrete.
This gives it an arbor-like appearance with concrete columns and railings to look like tree trunks. Over the years, the quiosco has served as a focal point for the Mexican-American community. Built for $2,300 this historical landmark is a gathering spot for Magnolia Park residents.
7. Learn the history of the Hidalgo Baseball pitch
Hidalgo is one of the few parks in Houston with an expansive baseball pitch. The history of this pitch goes way back to the 1960’s when it was constructed. The pitch has stunning views of diamonds that were added at the center of the pitch.
A famous baseball player Richard Hidalgo contributed to this history by winning major games. He pitched over five seasons in the majors before retiring and bringing the baseball trophy back home.
